Southwind Volleyball Club Coaching Policies

Southwind Volleyball Club is a non-profit/501C3 Junior Olympic Volleyball Club under the authority of the Heart of America Volleyball Region and as such follows the guidelines and polices of the United States Volleyball Association and the Heart of America Volleyball Region. This also includes a mandated criminal background check for all coaches prior to start of the Junior Olympic Volleyball season. (bi-yearly)

Such policies include club coaches receiving "IMPACT" Certification (Increased Mastery and Professional Application of Coaching Theory) through the Heart of America Regional Office which includes instruction in the following areas:

CHAPTER 2: PROFESSIONAL ETHICS
CHAPTER 3: PHILOSOPHY AND COACHING DEVELOPMENT
CHAPTER 4: MOTOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT
CHAPTER 5: DRILL DEVELOPMENT
CHAPTER 6: YOUTH, MINI AND BEACH GAME
CHAPTER 7: VOLLEYBALL PARENTING
CHAPTER 8: SPORTS MEDICINE AND RISK MANAGEMENT
CHAPTER 9: IMPACT PLUS – THE SKILLS
CHAPTER 10: IMPACT PLUS – THE SKILLS
CHAPTER 11: ADDITIONAL VOLLEYBALL RESOURCES

In addition to the "IMPACT" Certification a few of our coaches on staff have continued their education through the United States Volleyball Association by receiving the next level of Certification in the CAP program. (Coaching Accreditation Program)

The emphasis of CAP Level I is on "Teaching the Skills of the Game" with on-court and in-classrom hands-on learning. The accreditation for level 1 includes the topics but are not limited to the following sessions:

TEACHING THE FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS (with Cadre feedback)
MOTOR SKILL LEARNING THERORY
COACHING PRINCIPLES/FOUNDATIONS
DEVELOPING THE COACHING PHILOSOPHY
USAV CODE OF ETHICS/LEGAL DUTIES
DRILL DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION
PRACTICE PREPARATION AND EXECUTION
BASIC OFFENSIVE/DEFENSIVE/SERVE RECEIVE ORGANIZTION SYSTEMS

The emphasis of CAP Level II is on "Organizing and Developing Team Play". Topics include but are not limited to the following;

DEVELOPING GUIDING PRINCIPLES
DEVELOPING TEAM SYSTEMS OF PLAY
BUILDING THE SERVE RECEIVE OFFENSE
TEAM BUILDING: EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND TRUST
BUILDING TEAM DEFENSE: BLOCKING AND FLOOR DEFENSE
THE CHALLENGE OF DEVELOPING OUT-OF-SYSTESMS
TEAM DRILLS: TEACHING THE SYSTEMS

The summer of 2008 Southwind Volleyball Club implemented a new coaching development program that all Southwind coaches will work through. Topics include communication with athletes, teaching fundamental skills, practice planning, player assessments, team building, and many other topics.
