Southwind Volleyball Club Fall Leagues (2010)
Southwind offers players in the 6th thru 8th grades an opportunity to continue developing their volleyball skills and prepare for the Junior Olympic season by participating in Fall Leagues. Players will meet twice a week for one and a half hours of training and compete one night a week in the Johnson County Parks and Recreation District.
The fall league is intended for athletes whose schools do not provide a volleyball squad to participate on as a team member.Or for athletes who have not made their school team and want to continue their volleyball careers. For athlete's who attend public schools and are members of their school squad they are NOT allowed to participate in our fall league according to the KSHSAA. Athlete's who participate in the CYO leagues are allowed to participated in our league, CYO athlete's are allowed to participate in two sports at the same time and compete in both including the same sport.
Participants will be instructed and drilled over the basic
skills of the game. Strategies of the game will be introduced with emphasis
on fundamental skills. Each team is limited to 8/9 players so early registration is encouraged to ensure a position on a team. At the first practice/player assessment there is short parent meeting to cover the parent/player handbook, any additional information, and answer questions.
The fall league is managed as though it were the primary sport since during the fall months at the public and private schools it is the primary sport. Since it is considered the primary sport athlete's participating in the fall league are expected to manage their schedules to allow them to attend their team's practice times and locations as well as their competition schedule. The fall league will not accomadate the player's schedule, athlete's who participate are expected to be flexiable and adjust their schedules accordingly. Practice schedules and locations are determined by the team the athlete has been placed on. Athlete's will be placed on teams according to skill level and although player's grade will be taken into consideration the primary focus will be placing athlete's on teams that are best suited to their skills. In effect players from different grades may be on the same team.
